Beachy Summer Waves

One of my favorite hairstyles is a tousled, beachy waved look. It's perfect for summer and is really pretty!

I love it on Blake Lively- it's her signature hairstyle. Although she plays an East Coaster on the show Gossip Girl, she seems more like a California girl to me.

When I try the look out on my hair it looks more similar to Kate Hudson's. I actually did this to my hair today!

To achieve a similar look, here is what you do:

1. Brush out your hair and make a part in the middle. You can make one on the side, too, I just think this look is better with a middle parting. It doesn't have to be perfect- in fact, it looks better a bit messy.

2. Take either a spray bottle filled with water and spray your hair until it's damp, or just sprinkle a bit of water on. While it's still damp, take some mousse and scrunch it through your hair. If you have very curly hair, then you will want to smooth some the mousse or maybe gel instead through it.  This will add texture.

     3. Blow dry your hair with a cool setting.

     4. If you have wavy or curly hair, skip to step 5. You can still include this step, but it's probably not necessary.  Turn on your curling iron- two inches is ideal. If you have one less than that then your curls may look too tight and small, which wouldn't work well with the look. So if you don't have at least a two inch curling iron, then use either hot rollers or foam rollers.

a. If you are using hot rollers, keep them in for just a few minutes.
                 b. If you are using foam rollers, then do it right after you've applied the mousse and then blow dry your hair in the curls with cool air.
                             c. If you are using the curling iron, then first spray your hair with heat protectant. Then take medium to fairly large sections of hair and hold them for about 8 seconds. When you release it, pull the curl down gently and let it spring back up.

5. Use your fingers to gently comb out your hair. Take a teasing brush (if you don't have one then a regular one will work fine too) and some light hold hairspray. Lift up the crown of your hair and tease it with your brush. Then spray it with hairspray and let it fall forward so that it hangs in your face until it's dry. Then lift up large sections of your hair and tease and spray them lightly towards the root, scrunching your hair with the hairspray as you go.

6. Flip over your hair and flip back. It's done!

I hope you guys found this helpful if you're ever wondering what to do with your hair!
