Trends I'm Loving and Not Loving

First of all, I'd like to wish everyone a happy father's day! My dad is currently in Germany but we celebrated yesterday.

Today I'd like to discuss the current trends I'm loving and not loving. I usually don't try to copy trends just because it's a trend. I go by what I like to wear. But current trends are trends for a reason- because most of them are really cute! And let's be honest, I'm not going to look like a fool wearing something totally out of style.

Here are some trends I currently LOVE:

1. The peter pan collar.

I just think this is the cutest top. I think that the peter pan collar is adorable and looks quite European and fashionable. I purchased my first top with a peter pan collar around this time one year ago on my trip to Ireland. I saw one on sale at Topshop, the European version of Forever 21, and was hooked. Unfortunately that top mysteriously disappeared a few months ago and I've been so sad! I think I have to get a new one. :)

2. Boyfriend jeans.
Just to be clear, I do NOT like them as ripped up as the first pair but I do like the second pair especially. I think they look really laid-back and would be adorable with a bright oxford and fun belt tucked in! You have to wear them right, though, otherwise you will end up looking like a freaky hipster!

3. Sheer/oversized button downs.

Now, I would definitely wear a tank top/cami under these!!! But lately I have been finding myself really loving button downs that are oversized, sheer, and have a little pocket. I think they go well with the whole "laid back" look that I find myself liking lately. I just purchased an oversized cream colored t shirt with a silk pocket thingy the other day from H and M and have been really coveting a top like the one in the picture!

4. Belts. Any kind of belts.

Especially from J. Crew!!! Now, I have a history with belts. When I was about 10 and 11, I loved belts. I thought it was so cool to wear a belt over a random t shirt that didn't match at all. I even knit a belt and wore that one over my t shirts too. It was accepted by most 10 year olds back in 2008. When my best friend told me it was really weird, I stopped wearing belts all together. But lately I've loved belts again. I don't wear them over my shirts, though. I tend to tuck my shirts in and actually loop it through the belt loops. :P Anywayyy, I love metallic belts, sparkly belts, and neon belts. I just wish the ones from J. Crew weren't so expensive, which is why I've been buying mine from H and M. :)

5. Denim shirts.

Oh my gosh, I'm obsessed with my denim shirt. I went through this period of time when I wore mine to school at least once a week. One of my favorite OOTDs I've worn consisted of my H and M denim shirt, peach-pink pants, cheetah print belt, and bright orange flats. I think it really balances out a bright outfit!

6. Colorblocking.

I have a pair of shoes just like this that I wear constantly. I just think the colorblocking trend is adorable. I love it in shoes, in bags, in clothes....

Now for what I DON'T love....

1. Platform heels.

I walked into the accessories section of Forever 21 the other day and every single pair of heels looked like this. What the heck is up with that???? I'm sorry, but it's just so annoying for some reason! I think heels are so much cuter when they don't have to start at least 2 inches off the ground.

2. Belts over cardigans.

I'm aware that this is supposed to "cinch your waist and look flattering" or whatever, but in my opinion it just isn't working. It looks a bit weird to me. Like it's not supposed to be there or something, if you know what I mean. Belts are for beltloops, people! To be honest, I don't really like belts on your waist in general. I like more of a loose look or more on your hips.

3. Shorts with pockets sticking out the bottom.

This is definitely another trend that leaves a question mark. How is your pockets sticking out the bottom of your shorts supposed to look cool? To me, it is just proof that your shorts are too short. Pockets are not supposed to be seen, simple as that.

4. Foldable flats.

In my opinion these are just weird. They are shoes that come in a bag, look like they are shriveled up, and fold up on your feet and leave blisters. They look like bent-up ballet slippers or something. And they come in a bag....

What are your favorite trends? Are there any weird trends you hate, too?
